Bacong, Negros Oriental

Bacong is the smallest municipality of Negros Oriental whose people were noted for their bravery from the time of the marauding days of Moro pirates. Locals would repulse them with their unforgettable cry: "Bacon! Bacon!, which translates to "Stand up, stand up and fight!," hence the name Bacong.

Founded in 1801, Bacong is best known as the hometown of the revolutionary Filipino hero, Pantaleon Villegas, better known as Leon Kilat.

Bacong is a tiny coastal town adjacent to Dumaguete City on its south side and can be accessed and explored quite easily from the provincial capital.

Church of Saint Agustin of Hippo & Pipe Organ

Built in 1866 , Bacong church is located by the sea featuring the oldest existing main altar reputed to be the province’s oldest; its pipe organ from Zaragosa, Spain was installed in 1894 through the efforts of the first parish priest, Rev. Joaquin Soriano.

The belfry, reputed to be the tallest in Negros Oriental with winding steps to the top, was used as a look-out point for seafaring pirates who used to attack the village.

Negros Oriental Arts & Heritage (NOAH)

NOAH is a factory that is open to the public on weekdays where foreign and local tourists go to see export quality stonecraft being manufactured. It also has a showroom and store where folks can buy marvlously crafted Philippine souvenirs to bring home.

Talisay Beach Park

Talisay Beack Park is a popular public resort operated by the Bacong Municipal Government itself. Located right beside the town center, the resort has a coconut grove and garden, with cottages for rent for picnickers and tree houses perched atop Talisay trees for overnight accommodations.

It is the usual take-off point for visits to nearby Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage (NOAH) stonecraft factory, sinamay weaving center and the Bacong church.
