Cayaso Cave 
Mabinay
Cayaso Cave features an underground river located just 1 kilometer from the Poblacion Municipal Hall. The cave which is 3 kilometers  long and 6 feet wide, goes 20 feet down a winding stone pathway leading to an underground river of potable drinking water that does not have a visible outlet. Stalactites and stalagmites abound in different chambers.

Camp Mapot and Mountain Park

A verdant plateau situated 5,000 feet above sea level, first developed as a health camp, with pine trees, streams and hillside springs, rare flora and fauna, and with temperature and scenery reminiscent of Baguio’s City. Camp Mapot is a part of the Mt. Kanlaon National Park, a favorite of nature trekkers.

CENTROP 
Dumaguete City
The  Center for Tropical Studies (CENTROP) of Silliman University observes endemic fauna in their habitat, carefully recreated beside the Silliman ball field. Most popular denizen is the rare spotted deer Cervus alfredi, an endangered breed believed to exist only in Panay. Scheduled visits are allowed.

Dolphin Watch

One of the most popular attractions of Negros Oriental, described as one the most successful dolphin-and-whale-watching operations in the Philippines. The Bais Bay Cruise takes tourists to Tañon Strait, the narrow channel between Negros and Cebu Islands.

Mabinay Caves
Mabinay
The prevelance of limestone rock and extensive karst phenomena secured Mabinay’s fame as the Cave town of Negros Oriental. Locals have reported over 400 caves, although only a fraction have been explored.

Of those identified, Odloman, at 8,870 meters, went on record as the second longest in the Philippines. Cayaso, at 2,222 meters and a subterranean river beneath its main chamber, was ranked ninth.

Other notable caves for cave tours are the Crystal Cave, Panligawan Cave, Pandalihan Cave, Baliw Cave and the Mambajo Cave. Cave tours can be arranged with the Mabinay Municipal Hall (Vice-Mayor’s Office). Entrance fee is P50/cave.

Makawiliwili Ridge 
Mt. Kanlaon, Canlaon City
Known as the “Saddle in the Sky,” the ridge is located between two mountain peaks almost 8,000 feet above sea level. It is used by scientists and climbers as a vantage point in observing the two craters of Kanlaon Volcano.

Mayon Zigzag
Canlaon City
A portion of the highway from the junction of Barangay Bagawines where the road ascends in a zigzag, affording a changing panoramic view of the blue waters of Tañon Strait and the island of Cebu, and hugging the foothill dwellings of farmers like toy houses surrounded by cornfields. The climb ends in Barangay Tagbino.

Mt. Kanlaon

The most imposing landmark of Negros Island and one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. At 2,415 meters above sea level Kanlaon volcano has the highest peak in Central Philippines.

One of Negros Orientals’ most prominent peaks, the Cuernos de Negros or Horns of Negros, rises 5,095 feet above sea level. Located nine kilometers southwest of Valencia, Mt.Talinis has been declared a geothermal reserve under the protection of the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC).

Regular climbs are arranged by the Cuernos de Negros Mountaineers based in Silliman University where nature lovers get to enjoy the unspoiled scenery, its lakes (Nailig, Yagumyum, Halawig & Malingin), and the lush vegetation.

One other interesting land formation in Mt. Talinis is the Kaipohan sulfur vents area, that was once part of a virgin forest. A nearby waterfalls is also just a few minutes hiking distance from this area.

Oldest Tree
Canlaon City
Reportedly the oldest tree in the Philippines, this huge balete tree is estimated to be more than a thousand years old.

Pandalihan Cave
Mabinay
One of one hundred listed caves in Mabinay, it has a huge cavern, where stalactites and stalagmites abound. The cave is accessible on foot and has a large open ceiling at the opposite end.

Panligawan Cave

The most accessible of Mabinay’s caves, Panligawan is where many locals have memories of love and romance as it is said to be where swains of old wooed their sweethearts.

Siliman University Biological Laboratory  Dumaguete City
Silliman University’s Marine Lab is a center for excellence with facilities along Silliman Beach in Bantayan.

The Lab cultures the giant clam Tridacna, some species of crocodiles and other marine life for study and eventual propagation, operates the research vessel Milaena, which is also available for group cruises.

Talabong Mangrove Park
Bais City
A 400-hectare protected mangrove forest which is a natural habitat and nesting place of birds and other wildlife. Accessible only by boat and visitors have to walk through a 5,968 bamboo-split boardwalk before reaching the park.

Wuthering Heights
San Jose
Named after the famous novel, the hotel is located 16 kms. north of Dumaguete; with craggy cliffs leading down to the beachfront; has rafts and jet skis for rent. The Roofdeck restaurant serves dinner to patrons while enjoying the panoramic view of the sea.

Located in Salngan II, it has a picnic and camping area with a view of Mt. Talinis plus mini terraces for trekking.
