Natural Water Attractions of Negros Oriental, Philippines
When one thinks of Negros Oriental and the Phlippines, images of the exotic east with white sand beaches and a lush marine life come to mind.
To the surprise and delight of visitors to this corner of the Philippines, there are cool mountains and foggy hills with picturesque lakes and caves with underground rivers, and with these attractions come natural springs and waterfalls, of which Negros Oriental has many.
Negros island is divided into two provinces, Oriental (east) and Occidental (west) and dividing them is a mountain range that has as its highest peak Mount Canlaon rising 2,560 meters followed by Mt. Tepasi at 1,950 meters and Cuernos de Negros at 1,938 meters high.

We have to warn you that not all the falls are visible from the road. For example, the popular Casaroro Falls will have visitors to hike down 335 steps and then up a river before reaching the cascade -- not a trip for the faint hearted but an experience well worth the effort!
Valencia, Siaton and Sibulan may be taken as day trips from Dumaguete City, Calaon will require a longer trip of several days to take in all that beauty.
Accommodations around the attractions are usually provided by private or community-run resorts. This is all about nature at its best!

The waterfall flows 100 feet off Inyawan River at the edge of a forest. Cold and clear waters cascade downstream to join Masaulog River; accessible by road.
Lake Balanan
Sandulot, Siaton
Lake Balanan is 285 meters above sea level, comprises a humerus-shaped body of water encased by hills and ranges rising 200 meters from the banks, with cascades at its northernmost side.
Mabinay Spring
A poblacion spring-fed lake amid a forested area, ideal for picknickers and bathers. The spring is the town's main source of potable water.
Niludhan Falls
Seen in the right uppermost photo on this page, the three steep plunging falls of Niludhan that merge into a powerful cascade after heavy rains. Located in Sitio Niludhad, Barangay Dawis in Bayawan City, this towering cascade is located near and visible from the main road.

Flowing from a reputedly enchanted cave populated by fairies amid tall trees and ricefields, the crystalline spring is a water source of a Philippines National Irrigation Administration (NIA) project.
Pulangbato Falls
One of the most popular destinations in Valencia. The cascade is high in iron content, rusting the cliff in its path creating an awesome two-toned waterfalls.
Quipot Falls
A bottle-shaped cascade that drops about 100 feet and is the largest of three neighboring waterfalls fed by Binalbagan, Malaiba and Linothangan tributaries. Deep basin ideal for swimming and boating.
San Isidro Hot Spring
A natural, therapeutic hot spring bordered by mangroves in Barangay San Isidro.
Twin Lakes – Balinsasayao & Danao
Enrique Villanueva, Sibulan
Discovered by Don Miguel Patero in 1885, the twin lakes are located about 20km from the town center of Sibulan, in an area called Enrique Villanueva, and situated 1,000 meters above sea level.
The two inland bodies of water, Lakes Balinsasayaw and Danao, are surrounded by lush tropical forests, with dense canopies, cool and refreshing air, crystal clear mineral waters with brushes and grasses in all hues of green.
The lakes are separated by a narrow ridge with no visible outlets to the sea. Biodiversity in the area is known to be one of the richest in the Philippines.
